Telangana was known as Hyderabad State. It became Telangana after it gained independence from the rule of the Nizam and was merged with India in 1948.

In 1953 the States Reorganisation Committee was appointed to create and segregate states based on linguistic criteria. The SRC recommended the merging of Andhra State and Telangana

Thus, the State of Andhra Pradesh came into existence on 1st November 1956. Before the merger, there was a Gentleman’s Agreement to safeguard the interests of Telangana.

The agreement included clauses such as the distribution of Government jobs as per the strength of the population of Telangana and Andhra State, the election of Chief Minister and Dy Chief Minister from each state at a time etc.

In1969 a movement took place demanding separate State of Telangana. It saw violent agitations in the years to come.

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1973 enabled rule of GO 610, envisaging repatriation of non-locals in government posts recruited against government quota. Agitations flared in 2001, 2004 and 2009 because of non-implementation of GO 610.

Revanth Reddy a victor or by default Chief Minister – Discourse on the Separate Telangana struggle

On November 29, 2009 KCR launched fast-unto-death in his hometown Siddipet.  He did for 58 days. Police, arrested him near Karimnagar town on the morning of November 29, as he was on his way to Siddipet. Srikanth Achari’s self-immolation, several protests broke out, and suicides by several others.

Police shifted Chandrashekhar Rao to Warangal and then to Khammam, where a magistrate remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

KCR launched the fast from prison. On December 3, he was shifted to NIMS in Hyderabad, Flames of Statehood spread, and agitations, protests from Osmania University students, brought the State to a standstill.

On December 9, 2009, the then Home Minister P. Chidambaram declared that the process of formation Telangana State would be initiated which led to end of the hunger strike by KCR.

The developments elsewhere saw the Centre going back on its word. KCR firmed a Telangana Political Joint Action Committee.

Agitations like the ‘Million March’, ‘Sakala Janula Samme’, ‘Sagara Haram’ and multiple modes of agitation continued.  The Centre was forced to form the Justice Srikrishna Committee.

On 3rd October 2013, the Union Cabinet approved the creation of the 29th state of India, Telangana. The Telangana Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on 8th February 2014 with the full support of Congress as well as BJP. Smt.  Sonia Gandhi was the force behind this move.

The President of India also gave his assent to the bill and it was published in the Gazette on 1st March 2014. Telangana finally came into existence on 2nd June 2014. KCR’s relentless struggle finally led the formation of the new state on 9 December 2009.

KCR led the TRS winning 63 out of 119 seats. He was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of Telangana on 2 June 2014, the day the state came into existence.

In September 2018, KCR dissolved the Telangana Legislative Assembly, nine months before its term and went to early election. In December 2018, he was re-elected as Chief Minister for the second term. He won 87 seats.

As the Chief Minister, KCR initiated several welfare and development schemes, such as Rythu Bandhu,Dalita Bandhu,  Rythu Bima, Kalyana Lakshmi, Aasara pensions, Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, and KCR Kits.

He also focused on improving the infrastructure, irrigation, power, health, and education sectors in the state.

He wiped out the Congress and ruled the State for   two consecutive terms.  KCR faced some challenges and criticisms, such as the allegations of corruption, nepotism, authoritarianism.

He also faced some dissent and defection within his party, as some of his former loyalists joined the BJP or the Congress.  He antagonised Narendra Modi and Congress.  His daughter K.Kavitha was fixed in liquor case by the Narendra Modi government

KCR’s political journey would be remembered for courage, determination, and vision. He created a huge voter base.

He made Hyderabad as a global information technology hub.  His key achievement was construction of the world’s largest lift irrigation project Kaleshwaram across Godavari River.

He laid the foundation for another ambitious Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation.  He decentralised of power by dividing 10 districts into 33 districts. BRS leaders said that with the creation of its own state, the revenues were now entirely spent for development of the state.

Revanth Reddy a victor or by destined Chief Minister – A dramatic win for Congress

Revanth Reddy a victor or a destined Chief Minister – insight reveals that KCR would be burning his night oil as to how Congress won the elections with a campaign of few months against his ten years of rule,

The win for the Congress was orchestrated by the inability of the Bhartiya Janata Party by default.  The BJP planned a scheme of scam in other States such as Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh whereas it did the same scam in Telangana too,  but against KCR

The BJP was in dilemma as to who should win the Telangana since its win was ruled out. It had not have the vote bank to show the world that it could win the election on the pattern carried in the three States.

It played a spoil sport by exiting the KCR government since KCR would be a hard nut to crack and ensuring a Congress win would defend its scam.  KCR sooner or later would realise that Narendra Modi is smarter than any body else in the game of politics.

In reality, the Congress did not win but BJP ensured its win to erase KCR and to enforce him to align with it in future elections since a sword is hanging on his head since his daughter is entangled in a liquor case.  BJP fired two birds with one shot.

Revanth Reddy should realise this fact.  The providence had destined Revanth Reddy to win by default.  He should grab the opportunity to prove BJP wrong in its political chess-board arrangement.  He started with bang by signing the six guarantees proved by the Congress as its constitutional guarantees from the day one.

Revanth Reddy a victor or by default Chief Minister would be a litmus test – six guarantees of Congress

The decision of Chandra Babu Naidu not to contest the Telangana Elections, the support of YSR Telangana Party Chief YS Sharmila, Prof. Kodandaram and the left parties played their role to pack off KCR.

Revanth Reddy a victor or by default Chief Minister – Last word

Revanth Reddy broken the security walls of the Pragathi Bhawan making way to public.  He has also revived the Peoples’ Court. A great Start.

Most of his cabinet colleges are senior to Revant Reddy.  They might create a stumbling block to his activism.  How he uses his faculties and reasoning worth witnessing since he does not have governing experience.  One should wait and watch.  A great suspense in store for the political observers.
