Lion, Naqeeb-e-Millat, Qaid, Asaduddin Salahuddin Owaisi, 54, Member of Parliament since 2004 from Hyderabad constituency, Telangana, India. Owaisi is also the Chairman of the Owaisi Hospital and Research Centre. The hospital provides medical care at affordable price. It was started during the time of his grandfather.
Owaisi is a lawyer and barrister, has got a thorough understanding of the Constitution of India that makes him possible to deliver authoritative speeches on the rights and privileges of the common man in general and Muslims in particular. This trait makes him a darling and saviour of Muslims which does not go well with BJP.
Asaduddin Owaisi is a fire-brand and formidable politician and a known stanch supporter of Muslims and harbinger of equal rights of minorities. In his leadership, the AIMIM gained a momentum in Telangana State and its expansion to other Indian States.
For long, India has not had a voice for the Muslims in Indian Parliament. A ferocious voice raiser and a brute attacker on the antagonists of Muslims has now been found in Owaisi. A matching voice has arrived on the Indian horizon, a vacuum fulfilled.
Owaisi had been persona grata to the Indian Muslim community. He stirred the Indians with his reach, speech and outreach among the Indian Minorities and Muslims. His father had been a known poet and a popular Member of Parliament from the Hyderabad electorate. The Indian press and the present visual media and more so, the Bhartiya Janata Party made him a hero of the Indian Muslims, though his Party All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen does not have a popular image across India. India had not seen such a leader who does not fail to react to the anti-Muslim outburst of BJP.
During the last nine years, his image has had a great elation due to the anti – Muslim activities of the Hindu cadres and his resultant reactions. The Babri Masjid fiasco made him anti Congress face too, though he came to the rescue of the Man Mohan Singh Government.

The abrogation of Article 370 on Kashmir has seen a great opposition from Owaisi.

Currently, the AIMIM has two MLAs in Maharashtra and one MP, Imtiyaz Jaleel from Aurangabad. The AIMIM had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in alliance with the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi.

Owaisi entry and his expansion changed the politics and political scene in India and he had become a messiah in no time. He had been branded as anti-Hindu and a fundamentalist Muslim bigot by the conservative elements of Hindu zealots.

On 30 December, 2023 he had said while reacting to the notice of the New Delhi Municipal Council seeking public opinion on the Sunehri Bagh mosque’s proposed demolition.
The move of NDMC was violation of Articles 25 and 29 of the constitution that guarantee freedom of religion. It also violated section 51-1A of the Waqf Act 1995.
He further said that Maharashtra Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister were celebrating criminal acts and inciting people to commit crime. This was the direct result of the civil and criminal judgements on Babri Masjid.
Giriraj Singh, Minister for Rural Development, Government of India said both Hindus and Muslims in India had the same DNA, and urged Hindu youth to be watchful that nobody would desecrate the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
BJP leader Giriraj Singh said that Jinnah had left India on August 15, 1947 but the ghost of Jinnah remained in Owaisi.

In 2013, Owaisi was charged with sedition for allegedly making a provocative speech in which he had criticized the Indian Parliament and stated to have said that it had full of traitors. In 2014, Owaisi was charged with hate speech for allegedly making derogatory comments against a particular community.
In 2020, Owaisi was issued a notice for contempt of court by the Telangana High Court for his comments on the verdict of demolition of a mosque. Owaisi had criticized the court’s decision and called for a protest.
In 2021, the Election Commission accused him of violating the Model Code of Conduct during the Bihar assembly elections by making communal remarks.

He had always been supporting reservations for backward Muslims in government jobs and education institutes. He had always been saying that he was against the Hindutva ideology but not against Hindus.

Asaduddin Salahuddin Owaisi – a Messiah or a mesmeriser? The Congress party accused the AIMIM as the B-team of BJP along with Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) of Kalavakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), a two-time Chief Minister of Telangana State, India.
The Congress wondered why it had not contested all seats of Telangana State. So much so it did not field a candidate against T.Raja Singh of BJP, an arch rival of AIMIM in Gosha Mahal constituency but fielded a candidate against Mohammad Azharuddin from Jubilee Hills constituency.
He blindly declared that KCR would win without understanding the pulse of the electorate. The Telangana elections proved that Muslims did not vote for KCR in other parts of the State and Hyderabad Parliamentary area also the percentage was not good in Nampally and Yakutpura constituencies. The AIMIM, however won all the seven seats that it had won last time.

Asaduddin Salahuddin Owaisi – a Messiah or a mesmeriser? His political journey over the years, saw a transformation from a tough Turk to a moderate politician who evinced a full confidence in the Constitution of India. He needs to reconcile with the times when the BJP is sharpening its teeth to establish a Hindu State.
The Babri Masjid debacle took place under Narasimha Rao. The Congress expressed its regret from none other than Man Mohan Singh. The BJP enjoyed the fruits on the demolition in 2014 and 2019 and could be doing so in 2024 elections by its extravaganza blitz and glitz.
It is in the fitness of things that AIMIAM extends an olive branch to the Congress. The Congress has also reformed itself over the years. The Sikhs have reconciled then why not Owaisi.
It is in his own interest to seek a respectable entry into INDIA alliance along with estranged Mayawati and Prakash Ambedkar to save India from the catastrophe. Personal gains should be kept above over the national interest. Sacrifices are remembered whereas selfishness will be dismembered.
