The dis -qualification followed a conviction by the Gujarat High Court, which sentenced him with two-year imprisonment, on the accusation of defaming  Modi‘s surname.  Speaker of the Lok Sabha disqualified him from the membership of the House within twenty-four hours.  On 4th August, 2023 however, the conviction was stayed by the Supreme Court.  He was reinstated and he is back in the Lok Sabha.
